Alpha Point: The name should tell you only witnessed the beginning

Some encounters with artists bring us the unexpected discovery that the known geography of our scene is, to say the very least, incomplete. Viva Music’s Artist of the Month does not come from either Germany or Belgium, but from Moldova – less of a trampoline of electronic music, but nevertheless one that you should think of when mapping out your world. The reason? One man, Alexander ‘Rush’ Gladky, and his endeavors: in recent years, his name is often heard in connection to music projects, live performances, parties, covers, and remixes. This is why Viva Music chooses Alexander as our Artist of the Month – plus the fact that he is a very promising artist you should be looking out for.
As we write this piece, Alexander Gladky has just been around in Moscow for the 20th (!) Depeche Mode fan convention – alongside promising acts from Lie Detector, Mesmer, Monoclast and Inner Conflict. This is not a random piece of example we give to introduce our Artist of the Month, but also an indication of one of the names that helped shape his musical creed and inspirational foundry. Just as there is a tingling of Covenant, Camouflage and VNV Nation as well as seductive rhythm à la Combichrist in the same source panel when you try to fathom Alpha Point, his music comes out as new, fresh, and topped with a personal touch.
Alexander’s most notorious project to date is Alpha Point, a guitar-driven futurepop project, but his previous reputation was channeled by the group Future Positive, from which Alpha Point rose to glory. Alexander also does the vocals for Unity One and is the sound producer behind the project Mental Discipline.
While Alpha Point is quite a stage commodity, having performed in various engagements with Covenant, Combichrist or VNV Nation, it is also a project that seems to have a winning gene in its genetic makeup: enrolling last year in the prestigious Sonic Seducer’s Battle of the Bands 2010, the project won an overwhelming deal over their debut album with the no less prestigious Out of Line – thus sealing a promise that is not going to take long to materialize, and amaze.
Alpha Point’s own music is a fresh breath of air in synth-/futurepop. Their 2010 maxi singles “Alive” and “High Like the Angels” got numerous plays in clubs and were downloaded by numerous listeners – the hype they produced on their local and international markets is again a tell-tale sign of roused acumen and expectations set high for their newbie album.
Alongside the Alpha Point opus, several other elements create a galaxy worth listening, and that is sure to expand in the near future, if we take into account Alexander Gladky’s musical spectrum: remixes and covers for artists spanning from In Strict Confidence to Elegant Machinery, with determined halts at De/Vision and Depeche Mode, as well as Alpha Point’s presence on compilations next to Control Alt Deus, Bodycall, deZeption and Cryogen Second, they all give extra foundation to the musical reputation Alpha Point is building. For an act that straddles forth from a non-scene generic background such as Moldova, that is a lot, and Alexander’s inclusion in Viva Music’s series of artists of the month comes as an acknowledgement of creative efforts and outstanding results. And we have only witnessed the beginning!
